Character and Leadership Education Through Golf
A week-long residential youth development program
The Students
Middle school students many of whom are economically, socially
and academically at risk.
The Program
George Williams College of Aurora University in collaboration with First
Tee Aurora has developed a unique program designed to provide a five
day residential experience. The distinctive program brings together
the game of golf with outdoor leadership training around the core values
of the national First Tee program — honesty, integrity, sportsmanship,
respect, confidence, Responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment.
Students are immersed in an environment where they are compelled to
meet and work with peers and counselors as they experience a wide variety
of skill building and leadership development activities. The framework
for the daily schedule is golf.
The Instructors
Aurora University School of Experiential Leadership faculty
and graduate students work in partnership with The First Tee of Aurora
staff to coordinate programming for this collaboration. A PGA professional
oversees the curriculum.
