"Achieving Excellence in Teaching and Learning
Through Professional Education Communities"
History:
The
College of Education is the most recent addition to Aurora University. Building
on its tradition of preparing elementary and secondary teachers,
AU established the School of Education in 1996. Continued growth
and the addition of the Doctor of Education program led to the establishment
of the College of Education in 2000. The establishment of the College
of Education brought all education programs together in a single
unit.
Philosophy/Mission:
The
mission of our master's programs within the College of Education
is threefold. First, we seek to facilitate appropriate avenues
of professional development for practicing, certified educators by
collaboration with a wide array of organizations seeking to be part
of the school improvement process. Second, we strive to align
master's degree programs with the statewide school improvement direction
in Illinois and Wisconsin. Third, we develop school leaders
for classroom, school and community who will provide direction for
area schools in the next millennium.
The mission of the program is achieved through appropriate
partnerships between the University and organizations that have
a primary interest in and responsibility for achieving educational
excellence, including schools, districts, agencies, and inservice
entities. While maintaining ultimate academic control and
responsibility for academic excellence, the University welcomes
an active and instrumental role for its partners in the delivery
of the program, and in working within the design of the program
to achieve the goals of schools, districts, and other responsible
entities.
