03/15/10 05/08/10 DUNH 001 LEC S 08:00AM 04:00PM		Mary Tarling PRE-REQS: None Course description: The roots of moral behavior and effective leadership in organizations are tied to the leadership methods, and by extension the leader, invoked to reach organizational goals. This graduate course will explore the theory of Servant Leadership. Students will consider a general business ethic, meaning the moral principles and values governing business, as well as the feasibility of servant leadership practice within profit-bearing organizations. The essentiality and appropriateness of reference to a moral authority will be examined. The definition of God as a potential moral authority will be explored, along with other sources of faith based authority. The characteristics of the servant leader and application of the same to various distinct career disciplines will be presented. Through readings and primary interviews, students will explore the experiences and perspectives of actual leaders employing the concepts presented in class. The course will include a retreat at the AU George Williams campus, as well as presentations by key guest speakers versed in the topics addressed. NOTE:Course meets Friday and Saturday March 26-27; April 23-24; April 30-May 1. The final week-end course dates of April 30-May 1 will be held on the George Williams College campus in Williams Bay WI. Additional room and board charges may be required for April 30-May 1.
