ART1000 Art Appreciation
(3 semester hours)
Designed to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the visual arts through
a study of their theory, history, and mechanics. Includes a survey of the major
developments in the visual arts, and their respective aesthetic criteria, from
Classical Greece to the present.
No prerequisites
Meets General Education "Aesthetic and Philosophical Expression" B requirement
ART1110 Basic Drawing
(3 semester hours)
An introduction to the techniques of drawing with emphasis on representation
and pictorial composition.
No prerequisites
ART1120 Drawing II
(3 semester hours)
Further study of representation and pictorial composition in conjunction with
experimentation with the various drawing media.
Prerequisites: ART1110 or portfolio
review.
ART1210 Two-Dimensional Design
(3 semester hours)
Introductory course that examines, manipulates, and critically evaluates the
visual and conceptual properties of two-dimensional art. Designed to heighten
aesthetic appreciation and serve as an introduction for those who wish further
study of painting, drawing, or graphic design.
No prerequisites
ART1310 Three-Dimensional Design
(3 semester hours)
Introductory course that examines, manipulates, and critically evaluates the
visual and conceptual properties of three-dimensional art. Designed to heighten
aesthetic appreciation and serve as an introduction for those who wish further
study of three-dimensional design or sculpture.
No prerequisites
ART2510 Introduction to Painting
(3 semester hours)
Brings together the disciplines of drawing, design, color theory, and painting
technique to help students learn to manipulate the tools and materials of this
area of study.
No Prerequisites
ART2520 Painting II
(3 semester hours)
Continues the involvement with painting media in wider range of uses and forms
of expression. Individual experimentation and directions are encouraged.
Prerequisites: ART2510 or portfolio
review.
ART2610 Introduction to Sculpture
(3 semester hours)
An introduction to some of the basic sculptural techniques and media as applied
to the visual and conceptual properties of three dimensional art.
No Prerequisites
ART/COM2670 Introduction to Photography
(3 semester hours)
Introduction to the aesthetics and practice of photography; history of photography
and its place in contemporary culture. Students learn the mechanics of basic
black and white photography, explore the word and image history of photographic
movements and major artists, and create a portfolio of original work and essays
integrating a personal photographic style and vision with historical and contemporary
photographic art. Students must supply an adjustable 35mm single-lens reflex
camera (may be borrowed from the library), film, and mounting/portfolio materials.

ART3110 Drawing III
(3 semester hours)
Further study of representation, pictorial composition, and expression utilizing
selected drawing media.
Prerequisites: ART1120, ART1210,
or portfolio review.
ART3120 Drawing IV
(3 semester hours)
Further intensive experimentation with selected drawing media.
Prerequisite: ART3110
ART3510 Painting III
(3 semester hours)
Emphasizes the continued growth of a unique individual approach toward painting.
Prerequisites: ART1110, ART1210,
ART2520, or portfolio review.
ART/COM3600 Media Technology for
Instructional/Corporate Settings (3 semester hours)
This course is intended to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary
to assess and implement media technologies appropriate to teaching, learning
and communication. Emphasis is on applying concepts of design, communication
and learning as integral parts of multi-media presentations. Attention will
be given to assessing learner attributes, instructional objectives, and media
capabilities.
No prerequisites
ART4510 Painting IV
(3 semester hours)
Continued investigation of a personal approach to painting that seeks to develop
in a student a more professional attitude toward one's own painting and materials.
Prerequisite: ART3510.
