This course reviews some of the major theories in the sociology of religion. The emphasis is on major world religious systems and the interaction between religious and non-religious aspects of social life, and culture in various contexts is discussed; examples of religion based inter- and intra-group conflicts and cooperation are analyzed. Empirical data are discussed and opportunities are provided for students who wish to present empirical analyses.
