PSY110 General Psychology (3 semester hours)
The study of psychology as a behavioral science: learning, motivation, emotion, perception, development, personality, abnormal behavior, and the social and biological bases of psychology. A prerequisite for all advanced courses in psychology.

PSY221 Careers in Psychology 1 or (2 semester hours)
This course is designed to help students decide whether a degree in psychology will prepare you for the career you wish to pursue or identify what kinds of careers you could pursue once you obtain a degree in psychology. Topics and issues to be explored include: life as a psychology major; what can I do with a BA in psychology; psych majors in the workplace; presenting yourself to employers; preparing and applying to graduate school; credentialing and psychology as a profession; and issues of special interest groups.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY230 Mental Health (3 semester hours)
An introduction to the disciplines and theoretical perspectives of mental health services. Includes self development, the counseling process, assessment, prevention, and professional ethics.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY320 Behavior Management (3 semester hours)
This course is designed to teach selected learning principles and their application to the understanding of everyday behaviors in a variety of settings. This course is especially appropriate for those who manage, teach, or supervise others.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY334 Personality (3 semester hours)
A study of the major historical and contemporary theoretical viewpoints advanced to explain human behavior and personality development.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY335 Child and Adolescent Development (3 semester hours)
Cognitive, physical, emotional, moral, and social development of the normal individual from conception through adolescence.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY336 Adult Development and Aging (3 semester hours)
Cognitive, physical, emotional, moral, and social development of the normal individual from adulthood through senescence.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY337 Adolescent Development and Learning (3 semester hours)
The physical, cognitive, social, emotional, ideological, sexual and gender role, racial/ethnic and vocational development of pre-adolescents and adolescents, and the relationship of adolescents' development to learning and school achievement.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY338 Physiological Psychology (3 semester hours)
Anatomical, biochemical, and physiological bases of behavior with particular attention to such phenomena as cognition, emotion, perception, and sensation.
Prerequisites: PSY110 and BIO106. Additional biology and chemistry courses recommended.
PSY340 Learning (3 semester hours)
Associative and cognitive approaches to learning: conditioning, language acquisition, mnemonics, and the history of theories of learning.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY342 Motivation (3 semester hours)
Introduction to the psychological literature on motivation and emotion, with an emphasis on human studies and animal experiments with direct application to humans.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY/SOC343 Gender, Self, and Society (3 semester hours)
A study of the nature and origin of gender differences and similarities focusing on the biological, psychological, and social aspects of gender. Topics include gender development across the life span, the changes in gender expectations over time, and gender in the context of various social institutions (e.g., family, work, politics).
Prerequisite: SOC110 or PSY110.
PSY/SOC344 Human Sexuality (3 semester hours)
An examination of the interactive effects of physiological, psychological, and sociological factors in human sexuality. Topics covered will include human sexual physiology, sexuality over the course of life, love and mate selection, sexual coercion, sexual diversity, sex education, and various moral, legal, and ethical issues related to sexuality and sexual behavior.
Prerequisite: SOC110 or PSY 110.
PSY/SOC345 Social Psychology (3 semester hours)
Concepts, data, and principles of the field of social psychology: development of the individual in society and culture, communication, opinion and attitude formation and change, group process and integration, and motivation.
Prerequisites: PSY110 and SOC110.
PSY346 Exceptional Individual (3 semester hours)
Major causes and characteristics of persons evidencing exceptionality. The psychology, identification, and methods of teaching the exceptional individual; rehabilitative and preventive measures. Includes major areas of exceptionality, including learning disabilities. Meets concurrently with EDU561.
Prerequisites: PSY110 required; PSY335 recommended.
PSY347 Industrial/Organizational Psychology (3 semester hours)
A survey course of industrial/organizational psychology: selection, testing, interviewing, EEO law, training, performance evaluation, leadership, organizational structure, motivation, and stress. Includes lectures, discussions, and in-class group exercises.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY348 Sport Psychology (3 semester hours)
Sport Psychology is a field of study in which the principles of psychology are applied in a sports setting. These principles are often applied to enhance the athletic performance of teams and individuals. It is also deeply interested in the study of personal and social factors responsible for the development of citizenship, sportsmanship and personality.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY355 History of Psychology (3 semester hours)
Major historical personalities and trends in psychology and techniques of historiography appropriate for study of psychological data.
Prerequisite: PSY110.
PSY365 Child and Adolescent Psychopathology (3 semester hours)
Major categories of mental illness and maladjustment affecting children and adolescents; causes, symptoms, methods of treatment, and prevention.
Prerequisites: PSY110 and PSY335.
PSY366 Abnormal Psychology (3 semester hours)
Major categories of mental illness and maladjustment affecting adults and aging persons; causes, symptoms, methods of treatment, and prevention.
Prerequisites: PSY110 and PSY336.
PSY450 Experimental Psychology (3 semester hours)
An introduction to laboratory procedure and experimental design. Performance of representative experiments involving individual differences, sensation, perception, learning, and emotion.
Prerequisites: PSY110 and SBS232.
PSY452 Psychological Tests and Measurements (3 semester hours)
Major general concepts of testing: sample populations; random samples; reliability; validity. Nature, administration, scoring, interpretation, and use of representative group tests of ability, aptitude, interest, intelligence, and personality.
Prerequisites: PSY110 and SBS232.
PSY470 Contemporary Issues in Psychology (3 semester hours)
Students select topics from the major process areas of contemporary psychology for an in-depth study. May cover such areas as mental health, industrial psychology, developmental psychology, personality theory, social psychology, physiological psychology, behavior disorders, learning, motivation, perception, and group dynamics.
Prerequisites: PSY110 plus two other psychology courses.
