NSM110 Geology (3 semester hours)
Fundamental concepts of geology and the development of a geological awareness of the world around us: rocks and minerals, weathering, erosion, glaciation, landforms, structural geology, vulcanism, earthquakes, and continental drift. Includes lecture and lab.

NSM115 Science Foundations (3 semester hours)
Explores some of the fundamental physical concepts, including energy and the atomic view of matter, that are necessary to our understanding of science, technology and our world. Rather than narrowly studying a particular field of science, this course stresses the unity of the sciences. It is intended for both the non-science major as well as the freshman interested in pursuing a degree in science.
Prerequisites: Completion or concurrent enrollment in MTH110 or higher.
NSM120 Astronomy (3 semester hours)
A general introduction to modern astronomy including astronomical observations, astrophysical tools and laws, the solar system, stars, galaxies, and cosmology.

NSM/CHM180 Search and Discovery (3 semester hours)
Explores the applications of science and technology to a variety of complex issues in today's society. Addresses both the potential and limitations of science as well as the benefits and hazards that result from scientific advancements. This course includes some laboratory activities. It may be offered out of the Biology, Chemistry or Physics departments and taught from that perspective.
