BUS101 Introduction to Business (3 semester hours)
This course covers the basic fundamentals of business. Students will learn the basics of what business people do in marketing, management, production, accounting, finance, and other business areas.
No prerequisites

BUS201 Business Law I (3 semester hours)
This course will provide students with a basic understanding of the concepts, principles, and rules of law concerning the nature and sources of law, court systems, litigation, criminal law and business, contract and sales law, antitrust, securities regulation and employment law.
No prerequisites

BUS220 Professional Communication (3 semester hours)
The purpose of this course is to initiate, enforce, and amplify communication skills used regularly in the world of business. This course utilizes writing, electronics, speech, literature and the dynamics of many cultures to teach both simple and complex nuances of business communication. Imperative for business majors, this course stresses business communication in a web-like interconnective manner. Cross-listed with COM220.
Prerequisite: ENG102.

BUS245 Personal Financial Management (1 semester hour)
A study of individual and family financial management concepts and techniques which assist people in becoming informed consumers and efficient managers of personal resources.

BUS250 Introduction to E-Commerce (3 semester hours)
An introductory course which includes the marketing, technical and financial aspects of doing business on the internet.

BUS310 Money and Banking (3 semester hours)
The relationship between banks, the Federal Reserve, and the determination of the supply of money. Examination of Keynesian, new classical, and monetarist theories with regard to the effect of monetary policy on income, employment, and the price level.
Prerequisites: ECN201 and ECN202.

BUS320 Principles of Management (3 semester hours)
The function of management concepts in contemporary business environment along with organizational structures, leadership styles, and the history of management science.
No prerequisites

BUS321 Human Resource Management (3 semester hours)
Detailed study of the theories, principles, and practices involved in employing, organizing, and leading people. Emphasizes recent research in communication, leadership and supervision, motivation, organizational behavior, appraisal, development, compensation, and the traditional functions of the staff personnel department.
Prerequisite: BUS320.

BUS322 Management Information Systems (3 semester hours)
A study of the development and role of computer-based information systems in organizations. The strategic role of information, types of systems, components of computer systems, approaches to systems planning and development, and emerging trends in information systems management.
Prerequisite: CSC110.

BUS323 Principles of Operations Management (3 semester hours)
Introduction to concepts involved in managing the operational aspects of organizations where two thirds of organizational assets are invested. Upon completion of the course, students should have a working knowledge of how the topics of quality, productivity, scheduling/staffing, process design, resource management, international operations, and strategic alignment of operations can be used to effectively manage the operations function of organizations.
Prerequisites: BUS320, ECN/SBS232.

BUS324 Diversity in the Workplace (3 semester hours)
This course will investigate the similarities, differences and stereotypes of individuals in the workplace. Although similar in many ways, individuals do differ in many other ways including leadership styles, communication styles, status concerns and relationship behavior. This course will provide students with a thorough understanding of these similarities and differences and thereby enhance their effectiveness working with other individuals.

BUS326 Organizational Behavior (3 semester hours)
A study of the social and psychological factors that influence the management of groups and individuals in work settings. Topics include communication, leadership, decision-making, power, politics, and job design.

BUS330 Principles of Marketing (3 semester hours)
Introduction to the institutions, processes, problems, and policy involved in getting goods and services from producers to consumers; market strategy and planning; pricing, promotion, distribution, and product policy.

BUS331 Promotion (3 semester hours)
Marketing-related communication in contemporary social settings: planning promotional campaigns, promotional strategies, advertising development, media selection, program management, and evaluation of research.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS332 Sales and Sales Management (3 semester hours)
Responsibilities and functions of the sales person and sales manager, application of the sales process, selection of sales people, recruiting, sales training, compensation plans, sales forecasting, and budgets.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS335 Consumer Behavior (3 semester hours)
An investigation of behavior and communication research, appraising models, methodology, and concepts applicable to marketing. Designing marketing communication systems whose structure and output reflect a behavioral orientation toward the market place. Uses contemporary examples to illustrate consumer behavior models.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS336 Retail Management (3 semester hours)
Decisions involved in retail operations: review of types of retail systems and personnel; product selection, inventory and management; promotion strategies; pricing; market and sales research; and managing internal information.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS340 Principles of Finance (3 semester hours)
An introduction to managerial finance: the time value of money, capital budgeting, leverage, cost of capital, and working capital management.
Prerequisites: ACC202, ECN201, ECN202, ECN/SBS232, and MTH112.

BUS341 Financial Management II (3 semester hours)
Application of major issues in working capital management and capital budgeting management; short-term and long-term financing from internal and external sources; acquisitions and divestments and the techniques in structuring equity and debt financing in mergers and consolidations.
Prerequisite: BUS340.

BUS342 Credit Management (3 semester hours)
The five "c's" of credit and deciding how each affects other areas in the corporate structure. Marginal analysis is used as an accept-reject technique to evaluate various credit policies. Present-value analysis and statistical techniques may also be used in the examination of the credit department in a corporation.
Prerequisite: BUS340.

BUS351 Operations Research (3 semester hours)
Quantitative aspects of decision making in management: linear programming and its applications, critical path, and game theory; use of quantitative research by managers.
Prerequisites: ECN/SBS232.

BUS360 Total Quality Management and Team Building (3 semester hours)
Through readings and discussions the fundamental principles of business management as proposed by Deming, Juran, and Crosby are explored, and compared with Scientific Management, the dominant management paradigm used in Western enterprises. This new paradigm will be compared with your experiences to help you better understand the strengths and weaknesses of any organization.
Prerequisite: BUS320.

BUS428 Labor Relations (3 semester hours)
An overview of management-employee relations, with special emphasis on organized labor: development of employee programs that foster better working relations, collective bargaining, and contract negotiations. Enhances awareness of effective labor-management relations.
Prerequisites: BUS321 or permission of program chair.

BUS431 International Business (3 semester hours)
The problems and rewards of international business, covering both marketing techniques and marketing management in international markets. Cultural, legal, and political considerations of selling in foreign markets.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS435 Marketing Research (3 semester hours)
Methods of design and analysis of marketing research studies, including surveys and laboratory and marketplace experiments, information evaluation, sampling techniques, instrument construction and statistical analysis; problems of validity and reliability.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS438 Distribution Channel Management (3 semester hours)
Strategic issues of moving products to markets: types of wholesalers, retailers, industrial suppliers, and direct sales forces; fundamentals of channel management; product pricing, monetary allowances, promotion, and product allocation; physical distribution and transportation models. For marketing managers at the manufacturer, intermediary, and retail levels of marketing systems.
Prerequisite: BUS330.

BUS440 Small Business: Entrepreneurship (3 semester hours)
Covers topics that must be considered by every entrepreneur who is starting or acquiring a business: selection, start-up, developmental business plan, legal aspects of business, choice of location, and financing.
Prerequisites: BUS320, 330 and 340 or permission of the Dean.

BUS441 Securities Analysis (3 semester hours)
Detailed methods used in analyzing major types of securities including equity securities, bonds, and other fixed or income securities in light of economic, corporate, financial, and managerial factors.
Prerequisite: BUS340.

BUS444 Investments (3 semester hours)
Risks, return, and the investment process; alternative investment instruments; analysis and evaluation techniques; and portfolio management. Tangible as well as intangible assets are discussed.
Prerequisite: BUS340.

BUS499 Senior Seminar in Business Policy and Strategy (3 semester hours)
A capstone seminar course for those majoring in business administration, management, marketing, or finance. Useful models for deciding what a company's policy and strategy should be and the methods, as well as the systematic analysis, used in developing policies and multi-level corporate strategies. Strategic issues of national, multi-national and transnational businesses are discussed; supplemented by case studies. Students prepare and present individual and/or group projects.
Prerequisites: BUS340; senior level course.
NOTE: The following 500-level course may be taken by advanced undergraduates as well as graduate students. Undergraduates receive undergraduate credit unless approved for enrollment for graduate credit by the graduate program director.

BUS501 Advanced Business Law (3 semester hours)
A basic understanding of the law regarding contracts, partnerships, corporations, agency, and property. In addition, students will demonstrate an understanding of the legal environment in which businesses operate; the judicial and law enforcement systems; laws regarding patents, copyrights, and trademarks; anti-trust issues, monopolies, and price-fixing; and factors in the remote business environment such as social, technological, political, economic, and ecological, which impact the operation of business.
Prerequisite: BUS201.

MBA588 Travel-Study: Seminar in International Management (3 semester hours)
Offered on location at an international site (e.g. Paris or some other major international center) this seminar focuses on how management varies in international environments. Topics include cultural variation, international currency, ISO9000, international technological life cycles.
