Removing Barriers for Students Without Housing in Illinois: 20 Years of Charlie's Law
(Lectures/Speakers)

In 1993, a homeless child named Charlie was turned away from the school he previously attended after his family lost housing and moved into a homeless shelter. As a result, a law was passed to secure stability in school for children like him. Many of the provisions of Charlie's Law were later incorporated into the 2001 reauthorization of the federal McKinney-Vento Act, in which thousands of children have benefited.

Join us in commemorating the 20th anniversary of this important law. Learn how it has helped many children and about the current challenges to ensure equal access to education for all.

This is a free event. Reservations are not required.
