Nov 20: Leadership Breakfast Panel: "Inspiring Trust"

7:30am: Community
"Inspiring Trust," the first of three breakfast panel discussions on leadership, will be held at Hotel Arista, 2139 CityGate Lane in Naperville.

The public is invited. Admission is $25 per person. Co-sponsors are Aurora University's Dunham School of Business and the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Panelists scheduled are Mike Hensley, vice president of sales for NetScout Systems, Naperville, who manages a 100-plus sales force serving Fortune 500 companies in the high-technology arena; Terry Emmel, vice president and general manager of FONA International, a provider of intelligence, innovation, and technology solutions focused on new flavor ideas and consumer-preferred products; and Gloria Bunce, executive director CASA Kane County, a nonprofit, volunteer organization that advocates for abused and neglected children in the juvenile and probate court systems.

The moderator will be Shawn Green, director of AU's Dunham School of Business.

The breakfast series continues with "Leading Effective Teams," on Feb. 12 and "Creating a Healthy Leadership Strategy" on May 14.

Nov 20: Arts and Ideas: AU Theatre Department presents "The Clean House"

7:30pm: Arts and Culture
A successful physician requires an ordered, pristine world, but when her obsessively maternal sister usurps the Brazilian comedienne maid, and her oncologist husband runs off with a patient with breast cancer, the dirt starts flying. Pulitzer runner-up Sarah Ruhl approaches the mess of mortality with a search for humor and compassion.

Directed by Kelly Roush, guest artist and adjunct faculty member.

Dec 13: "With a Holy Light" Christmas Concert

7:00pm: Arts and Culture
George Williams College presents "With a Holy Light," a free Christmas concert featuring the Music by the Lake Singers and Festival Chamber Orchestra with Mark Davidson on organ.

The concert, which is open to the public, will be performed under the direction of Christine Flasch, Executive Director of Music by the Lake.

Jan 26: Adult Degree Completion Open House

6:00pm: Admission
This open house for prospective adult students interested in completing a bachelor's degree will provide information on the following AU programs: accounting, business administration, communication, criminal justice, psychology, and RN to BSN.

Check-in starts at 6:00 p.m., followed by the program at 6:30.

Jan 27: HR Institute: "Utilizing Mindmaps for Success"

8:00am: Human Resources
"Utilizing Mindmaps for Success," a business workshop, will be presented at Aurora University's Human Resources Institute from 8 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the University Banquet Hall at Alumni Hall, 1410 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.

The program is free to the public. Networking and refreshments begin at 7:30 a.m.

The presenter is David Dulany, assistant professor of business, Aurora University.

This poignant and often-funny movie features a disillusioned professor and how his life is transformed by a chance encounter in New York City. Film showing with an introduction and discussion led by Martin Forward, Professor of Religion and Executive Director of the Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action, and Gerald Butters, Professor of History.

Jan 30: Arts and Ideas: Chicago a cappella

7:00pm: Arts and Culture
As part of its touring performances this year, Chicago a cappella has brought back two kinds of classics: Baroque and Beatles. In this updated program, the passionate Baroque music teams up with hard-driving and contemplative Beatles hits.

Feb 2: Arts and Ideas: "Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray" Art Exhibit

4:30pm: Arts and Culture
Nickolas Muray captures famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) in an exhibit of more than 40 color photographs. He began photographing Kahlo in color in the winter of 1939 and continued to do so until 1948 — photographing her more than anyone else.

The exhibit in the Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures at Aurora University is part of a national tour over a two-and-a-half year period containing 46 photographic prints reproduced from the original negatives.

Opening reception: Tuesday, February 2, 4:30-7:00 p.m.

The exhibit runs from February 2 to March 28, 2010.

Feb 3: Arts and Ideas: A "Star Trek" Presentation by David Alexander

Based on his well-received biography of Gene Roddenberry, David Alexander, Deputy Director of SciTech Hands-On Museum and author of "Star Trek Creator: The Authorized Biography of Gene Roddenberry," will offer insights to the "Star Trek" creator's life.

Feb 5: Arts and Ideas: AU Theatre Department presents "Trip's Cinch" by Phyllis Nagy

7:30pm: Arts and Culture
Our tabloid-TV obsession, with scandal and "knowing the whole truth," gets a run for its money when a pop-anthropologist professor interviews a millionaire tycoon accused of sexual assault and the hick crossing guard who lost the case ... sort of. Their attitudes and accounts surprise and contradict, and even after replaying "the actual event," the truth still isn't clear. American-Brit playwright Phyllis Nagy balances, but lets the audience debate. Directed by AU alumnus Ian Klink, B.A. '07.
