B. A. in Accounting -
Adult Degree Completion:

Minimum of five (5) years full-time work experience is required for admission
to this major.
The demand for accountants has been increasing for the last few years
and is continuing to rise. The degree-completion major in accounting
is intended for working adults who wish to prepare for a career in profit,
non-profit and governmental organizations. Students have the opportunity
to select courses emphasizing managerial or financial accounting to obtain
their bachelor’s degree.
Courses are taught in eight-week sessions in the evening and/or on Saturday
mornings. Three upper-level accounting courses are taught in the 16-week
format to maintain the high standards our accounting graduates bring
to the accounting profession. An optional benefit of the degree-completion
accounting major is a CPA/M.B.A. track that prepares students for the
Certified Public Accounting examination. After receiving a bachelor’s
degree in accounting, a student may decide to continue with the eight-week
format in the M.B.A. program. In some instances, two accounting electives
in the senior year may be applied to the Aurora University M.B.A. accounting
concentration degree. That, in turn, fulfills the requirement of 150
total academic hours to sit for the CPA exam.*
Aurora University offers both the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and the Bachelor
of Science (B.S.) degrees in accounting. For a full listing of requirements for the Adult Degree Completion program in accounting, please refer to the Accounting program home page.
*Note: Consult the Aurora University Graduate Business catalog/handbook
for additional courses and programs to satisfy the 150-hour requirement
to take the CPA examination in Illinois, effective January 1, 2001.
