Spartans Earn Bid To NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships
Head
coach Kanute Drugan will guide his women's soccer team to their second
consecutive NCAA Championships. The Spartans (19-2) will host Loras
College (17-4) on Wednesday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. on Spartan Field.
Aurora captured its fifth NIIC Conference championship out of the last seven
years in 2002.
Seniors Tara Utrata (Naperville, IL) leads the Spartans with 15 goals and
14 assists, Jami Tempera (Hoffman Estates, IL) added 16 goals and eight
assists including eight game winning goals, and Tiffany Disher (Wood River,
IL) chipped in with six goals and 10 assists for the Spartans. Junior
Carmen Zobel (Lewiston, ID) had six goals and 10 assists. Freshman
goalkeeper Alicia Martin (Roselle, IL) allowed only 13 goals in 19 games for
goals against average of 0.75 goals per game.
The women’s soccer team broke many records in 2002. The Spartans
won a school record 19 wins to only two losses. The following records
were set in the 2002 season:
- Most Consecutive Wins – 13
- Most Shutouts – 13
- Lowest Goals Against Average – 0.66
- Quickest Goal Scored In School History – 11 seconds
- Most Individual Shutouts – Alicia Martin, 11
- Most Points Scored In Career – Tara Utrata, 174
