Michelle Roof enters her third season as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Aurora University. Roof has compiled a record of 31-22. In the teams first season in the NAC, Coach Roof led the Spartans to a 14-5 record.
Along with her coaching and playing experiences at the Division I, II, and III levels, Coach Roof brings new energy, enthusiasm, and determination to the Spartan Women's Basketball program.
Roof takes over the reigns of the AU women's basketball program after spending time as an assistant at Lewis University. While at Lewis, the 2004-05 Flyers tied a program record for conference wins in a season and made their first trip to the NCAA Division II Championship tournament since the 1997-98 season.
Prior to her stint at Lewis, Roof spent two years as an assistant at Saint Mary's University ( Minn.). She was the recruiting coordinator for the Cardinals and helped guide the team to a 17-9 record in 2003-04. The team's performance was a six-game improvement over the previous season when the squad was 11-15. Along with Roof's coaching responsibilities at Saint Mary's, she directed the Lil' Cardinals' youth basketball club and clinics.
Roof also spent one season as an assistant coach at Grinnell College ( Iowa) where she was involved with recruiting, opponent scouting, and individual player development.
A Peoria, Ill. Native, Roof played two seasons at Eastern Illinois University (Division I) before spending a season as a student assistant coach for the Panthers. She also was a student assistant at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for one season.
A member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Roof has worked several national camps, including University of Tennessee, Doug Bruno - DePaul basketball camps, Syracuse University, Texas Tech University, and University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Roof received her Bachelor of Science in physical education in 2001 from Eastern Illinois University.
Keith
Parris
Assistant Coach
Third Season
Keith Parris enters his third season as an assistant coach for the Spartans. He comes to Aurora University from Edgewood College (Madison, WI), where he was an assistant coach in 2004-05.
"I am very excited to have Keith once again be on my staff,' said head coach Michelle Roof. "Along with his knowledge of the game, he brings a great amount of energy and intensity to our program. I believe he will do an outstanding job of motivating and developing our post players, while also focusing on developing our team communication skills."
While at Edgewood, Coach Parris helped guide the Lady Eagles to the Lake Michigan Conference championship and their first NCAA tournament appearance in school history. They also finished the year ranked 13th in the country among all Division III women's basketball programs in the category of most-improved.
As a student-athlete, Parris played one year at Northland Community and Technical College, where he was a member of the divisional championship team in his first season. He averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds per game and was ranked seventh nationally in field goal percentage.
Parris completed his eligibility at the University of Dubuque, where he was a two-time captain and averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds per game. He finished his career ranked as one of the schools top field goal percentage shooters in history, shooting over 50% for his career.
Keith comes from winning programs, both as a coach and as a player. He understands how much work it takes to establish a winning program, and is committed to moving this Spartan program forward.
In addition to his degree from the University of Dubuque, Parris also holds a degree from Keller Graduate School of Management. Keith and his wife, April, live in Aurora with their son, Issac, and daughter, Ivy.
Tim Hohn
Assistant Coach
First Season
Dr. Tim Kohn, ‘Coach K’, enters his first season as an assistant coach for the Spartans. Kohn has an extensive coaching background at the high school and AAU levels, beginning his coaching career in 1988. Kohn most recently coached for the Illinois Valley Starz AAU Girls’ Basketball program. During his 3-year stint with the Illinois Valley Starz, seven of his players went on to play basketball at the college level.
Kohn’s previous coaching stops include Plano High School, Newark High School, St. Edward’s High School (Elgin), and Ottawa Marquette High School. While at Ottawa Marquette, ‘Coach K’ guided his Lady Crusader squad to an 18-win season, most in school history at that time, and a regional championship.
"Tim is a great addition to our staff, bringing a vast amount of coaching knowledge, experience, and success as a head coach. He has a true passion for coaching and brings great ideas and enthusiasm to the program.”
Kohn has a doctorate and bachelor of science degree from Northern Illinois University. He an his wife, Annette, live in Ottaw with their daughter, Jaci Kohn.
Heather Guetschow
Assistant Coach
First Season
Heather Guetschow returns to Aurora Univeristy as an assistant coach for the Spartans. She was a student-assistant coach in the 2004-2005 season.
Prior to returning to AU, Guetschow was a part of the Dundee-Crown High School girls’ basketball staff as a sophomore girls’coach in 2006-07 and a freshmen girls’ coach in 2005-06.
Guetschow was a two-sport standout for the Spartans during her playing career (2000-2004), excelling both on the soccer field and hardwood for AU. While at Aurora, she played on six conference championship teams and competed in 4 NCAA tournaments.
“I have wanted Heather on my staff since I accepted the head coaching position here. She was a great player and leader while a student-athlete at AU, and has gained valuable coaching experience at a top high school program. Heather understands the winning tradition at Aurora University and knows what it takes to achieve it. She will be an outstanding mentor for our players.”
Guetschow has a bachelors of arts degree in physical education from Aurora University. |
