Homecoming 2002 Alumni Awards

Outstanding Alumni Award:

Jesse J. Ary, GWC '61
Jesse Ary is an alumnus of George Williams College. He went on to work for the YMCA and is currently unit supervisor at the Arizona Department of Economic Security, where he supervises a team which provides services to families, children, and adults in social service programs. He resides in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

Clyde C. Lowstuter, AU '69
Clyde Lowstuter, a resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Aurora University. He is president and CEO of Robertson Lowstuter, his 20-year-old executive development firm. He is also the author of two acclaimed McGraw-Hill books, In Search of the Perfect Job and Network Your Way to Your Next Job. Fast!

 

Tom Beerntsen, GWC '71
Tom Beerntsen is a graduate of George Williams College. He has worked in many positions within the YMCA, and is currently Chairman of the National Board of the YMCA. He is president of Beerntsen Confectionery and resides in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

 

Santos Rivera, AU '73
Santos Rivera is an Aurora College graduate. He currently works as special assistant to the president of Northeastern Illinois University and project director of the Chicago ENLACE Partnership, a Kellogg Foundation national initiative in Hispanic Higher Education that includes 13 national projects. He has also served as university chair of the Minority Internship Program at Northeastern University. His teaching services to Northeastern include acting as Thesis/Project Advisor for students of the University Honors Programs.

 

David R. Barrows, AU '77
David R. Barrows is Bureau Commander of the Kane County Sheriff's Office. He received his bachelor's degree from Aurora University and graduated from the National Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy with a 4.0 GPA. He currently resides in Geneva, Illinois.

 

David L. Stover, AU '78, '88
David L. Stover holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in business management from Aurora University. He was elected mayor of the City of Aurora in April 1997. Prior to his election, he served as the City of Aurora's police chief from 1991 until his retirement in late 1996. Mayor Stover also has a background in the educational field. He has been an instructor at Waubonsee Community College and an instructor and senior lecturer at Aurora University. He also has worked as a guest lecturer at such institutions as the University of North Florida. His articles have been published in Police Technology and Management Magazine, Police Chief, and local newspapers.

 


Roger K. Parolini Lifetime Achievement Award:

Quentin R. Mease, GWC '48
Quentin Mease is presently the chairman of Harris County Hospital Foundation in Houston, Texas. He is a graduate of George Williams College, and went on to found many civic organizations, including the Houston Community Forum and the Houston Area Urban League. He also served as executive director of the South Central Branch of the Houston, Texas YMCA, launching many diverse programs.

 

Athletic Hall of Fame Awards 2000:

Jerry Angle, GWC '74, '76
Jerry Angle is an alumnus of George Williams College. He went on to serve his alma mater in various positions, including athletic director, assistant professor, and men's and women's volleyball coach. He has also coached at Northwestern University, Dominican University, and is currently employed at Benedictine University.

 

John Bachio, AU '91
John Bachio is a graduate of Aurora University and a resident of Oswego, Illinois. He is currently in his eighth year of teaching at Thompson Junior High in Oswego, and has been coaching basketball and baseball for nearly 10 years. He is a past volunteer for the Special Olympics.

 

Derek Tieman, AU '93
Derek Tieman received his bachelor's degree in recreation administration from Aurora University. Derek remains ranked among the top five single-season and career record holders at both running back and kick returner. He has also volunteer coached high school basketball and football. He currently works for R&L Carriers and resides in Dupo, Illinois.

 

William Flowers, AU '95
William Flowers is an alumnus of Aurora University, where he received his bachelor's degree in engineering science. William was named Athlete of the Year in 1995 for basketball. He presently is a quality engineer for System Sensor in St. Charles, Illinois.

 

Dr. Sam Bedrosian ("Dr. B."), Athletic Director and Coach, '57-'62, '68-'94
Dr. Sam Bedrosian worked at Aurora College and Aurora University as athletic director, head of the Department of Physical Education, assistant professor, and varsity basketball, softball, tennis, golf, and baseball coach. He currently resides in South Haven, Michigan.

 

Nora Campbell, GWC '72
Nora Campbell received her master's degree from George Williams College, where she also acted as gymnastics and rhythmic gymnastics coach. She went on to serve as coach and team manager of rhythmic gymnastics teams for the Olympic, Pan American, and Goodwill games. Nora is currently a gallery director at Dormont Studio Gallery in Indianapolis, Indiana.
