France

Visit Paris and France as you have never visited them before. Dr. Stephen Sawyer will lead you through Paris recounting how this once distant city on the edge of the Roman Empire became one of the great cultural capitals of the world. You will also enjoy day trips to Versailles, Loire Valley and Metz. While in Paris, you will take historical walks through the city tracing its history from the Ancient Roman ruins to the Paris of today. Stephen Sawyer, a Paris resident, is Chair of the History Department at the American University of Paris and a past lecturer in History at the University of Chicago from 2003-2008. He has taught urban history at several prestigious French universities and has taken three groups of AU students to Paris for May Term travel/study courses in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
