Getting a mailbox:
Resident students, who come to campus fall term, will automatically be given a mailbox (the mailroom receives a list of resident students from the Office of Residence Life).  They must come to the mailroom to get the key to their mailbox after arriving on campus, during regular business hours.

Student groups should have an on-campus mailbox to receive information from AUSA (Aurora University Student Association).  If you are an officer of a student group please check with the mailroom regarding a mailbox.

What the Mailroom offers:

  • We sell stamps (individually, by the book [20 count], or by the roll [100 count])
  • We sell envelopes of all sizes (both padded and regular)
  • We can ship packages for you via UPS (United Parcel Service) or USPS (United States Post Office)

Other information:
Addressing mail to the university - When addressing mail to the university please include the recipient's name/department in the address.  The following format is recommended:

Aurora University
(Student's Name)
347 S. Gladstone Ave.
Aurora, IL 60506-4892
or Aurora University
(Department Name)
347 S. Gladstone Ave.
Aurora, IL 60506-4892

Receiving packages (or anything that's too big for your mailbox) - A "package" slip will be put into your mailbox to alert you that you have received an item that would not fit in your mailbox.  Please bring the package slip to the Mailroom counter, during regular business hours, and you can retrieve the item [student's signature is required when retrieving anything that is delivered to us that requires our signature]. Have packages sent to:

Aurora University
(Student's Name)
1321 Prairie St
Aurora, IL 60506
[when getting something shipped via a carrier other than the US Postal Service]

Forwarding student mail - Student mail is only forwarded during summer break. The university mailroom must hand forward all student mail (the post office will not do it since we have so many residents at one address).  Although the mailroom forwards mail as often as three times a week it must be manually processed through the post office and can take 2-3 weeks to be received at the forwarding address.  It is recommended that students who receive regular mail (i.e. credit card bills) contact the sender and have their address changed for the period of the break.  This process eliminates the time-lapse in forwarding mail.

Be sure to stop by the mailroom, before leaving for prolonged breaks, to be sure there is a forwarding address on file for you. If you are permanently moving off-campus be sure and stop by the Mailroom to turn in your mailbox key and leave a forwarding address. The Mailroom will forward mail to former resident students for a six month period. You should contact all entities of your change of address [i.e. credit card companies, Aurora University {by contacting the Registrar's Office}, magazine subscriptions] so that your mail will be sent to you at your new address.

Mailbox keys - When leaving campus for the summer (or permanently moving off-campus) your mailbox key should be turned in to the mailroom and a forwarding address should be left. There is a $20 fee charged for any keys that are lost or not returned to the Mailroom. Please contact the mailroom [x5465] if you need a replacement key.

Fax services - the mailroom has a fax machine for student use.  The fax machine can be used during regular business hours at the following rates:

To Send a Fax
Domestic $1.00 for the first page $.50 for each additional page
International $2.00 for the first page $1.00 for each additional page

To Receive a Fax
$.20 per page

How do I pay?  The mailroom accepts cash, or checks (made payable to Aurora University) for the amount of purchase only.  Sorry we are not set-up to accept debit/credit cards.

What if I want to mail something and the mailroom is closed?  There is a mailbox in the hall outside the mailroom [in the Spot]. You can put on-campus, or outgoing mail [with postage, or with account number to be charged noted] in that mailbox. That mailbox is emptied at least two times a day {early morning and by 2 p.m. in the afternoon, Monday through Friday}

What if I need stamps or services while the mailroom is closed?  There is a postal center just around the corner from the university on Prairie Street.  Colonial Drugs, located at 1032 Prairie (go south on Gladstone Ave to stop sign, turn left, Colonial Drugs is about 2-3 blocks down on the south side of the street), sells stamps and has daily pick-ups (except Sundays) from the post office.  To check their pick-up schedule and hours of operation please call 897-1146 (they also do UPS).

If you have any further questions please feel free to call the mailroom at x7824 (for Lori Aloisio - Mailroom Manager), x8880 (for Katelyn Keller - Mailroom Coordinator), or x5465 (the mailroom's general number).  If no one is available to accept your call please leave us a voice mail message and we'll call you back.
