Disabilities Services at Aurora UniversityDisabilities services at Aurora University are coordinated through the Center for Teaching & Learning, located in Charles B. Phillips Library. The Center for Teaching & Learning is responsible for authorizing and facilitating accommodations for students with disabilities, consistent with Section 504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Aurora University will provide reasonable accommodations for students with a diagnosed and verified learning disability, physical disability, or psychological disability. Once we have met with a student and established that the student has appropriate documentation of a disability, we will work with that student to provide him or her with access to the services offered by Aurora University. Depending on the disability, this may include providing classroom accommodations, testing accommodations, assistive technology, access to readings on tape, or other appropriate services. Tutoring for specific courses and more general development of academic skills is available to all Aurora University students. Accordingly, a student does not need a special accommodation to access tutoring and one-on-one support through our office - that is a free service available to all of our students. Students seeking accommodations for documented disabilities should contact the Disabilities Services Coordinator, Susan Lausier. Students are also welcome to meet with the Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning, Eric Schwarze. The Center for Teaching & Learning's front desk phone number is 844-5520. Students expecting to receive accommodations who do not first go through the Center for Teaching & Learning will not be granted accommodations by the faculty. Students who may not be able to provide documentation of a disability, but who have special needs, are still encouraged to contact the Center for Teaching & Learning to see what forms of academic support we might be able to offer and to learn how to obtain the appropriate documentation. Students seeking accommodations should read the Aurora University Policy for Students with Disabilities. We also recommend reading the U.S. Department of Education publication, Students with Disabilities Preparing for Postsecondary Education: Know Your Rights and Responsibilities.
