Learning Outcomes — Physical Education K-12 Teaching Certification

  • Understanding of physical education content and disciplinary concepts related to the development of a physically educated person as evident in the acquisition of a K-12 teaching certification, a middle school health endorsement, and credentials in American Sport Education Coaching and, First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences based on expected developmental levels through authentic course assignments and activities with the Partnership School.
  • Ability to plan and implement learning experiences during their methods and student teaching experiences that are sensitive to diverse students enabling them to develop qualities of respect and responsibility.
  • Ability to use a variety of strategies to institute behavior change, manage resources, promote mutual respect and self-responsibility, and motivate K-12 students through nontraditional activities that promote leadership, problem-solving, and team-building. 
  • Sensitivity to all students and ability to model appropriate behavior in order to enhance student learning and engagement in life-long physical activity.
  • Skills in the interpretation and application of state and national (NASPE K-12) standards through the creation of lessons and unit plans that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Ability to use multiple forms of authentic and traditional assessment to determine achievement, provide feedback to students, guide instruction, and analyze the appropriateness of various pedagogies.
  • Ability to reflect on practice and evaluate the effects of one's actions on others and seek opportunities to grow professionally.
  • Facility with current technologies to enhance learning.
  • Ability and inclination to advocate for physical activity both in school and the larger community.
