I entered the teaching profession after many years as a trauma/ER Registered Nurse with extensive management experience in both acute and long-term health care. Twenty-five years as the chief nursing executive in three acute care and two long-term care venues provided me with extensive management and leadership experience. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and find renewed energy every day when I see nursing students begin to put together the complex concepts underlying the nursing knowledge base. This is most profound in the clinical setting, where knowledge, psychomotor skill and interpersonal "know-how" come together in service of making a difference for patients. I love seeing the lights go on when knowledge meets clinical reality.
