Allow 3-5 days to receive your book(s). Contact us if you have not been notified within that time.

  1. Go to the Find a Book link on the Phillips Library homepage. Always search our VuFind catalog first. Enter the title of the book you are looking for (or author), or do an Advanced Search for your topic. If searching by title, leave off initial articles (the, a, an) at the beginning of the title (e.g.: The Wind in the Willows would be typed in the search box as wind in the willows. The search box is not case-sensitive). In an Advanced Search you would type your topic on one or more of the search lines (e.g.: women on the first line, Europe on the second line). If you receive the message that your search did not match any sources, that means we do not have that title in our collection. There will be a clickable link that says "Repeat search in the I-Share catalog?" If the title you want is in the collection of other academic and research libraries in our consortium, their records will appear. If more than one edition, or a similar title, or a like record appears, you will have to select (click on) the title you want to request.
  2. Click on the title you want to open the full record for the book. Look at the record to be sure that this is the item you want. In order to request this item from another library, this must be a book that is not held by the Aurora University Phillips Library. Click on the tab at the bottom of the record that says "Request Item."
  3. At this point you will need to Login to your VuFind account, or create one if this is the first time you are using VuFind. To create a VuFind account:
    • Click on "Create New Account".
    • Fill in your "Basic Information." We highly recommend using your AU username and password where it asks for "Desired Username" and "Password." This is the username and password you use to access your AU e-mail, WebAdvisor and  Moodle. If you choose a different username, we will not be able to retrieve it for you if you forget it later.
    • Fill in the "Library Catalog Profile" information. For this you will need your barcode number, which is a 14-digit number made up of a prefix identifying you as from AU (2251100), plus your 7-digit student ID number (e.g.: 2251100 + 0123456 = 22511000123456). Your 7-digit ID number will start with a zero and appears underneath your photo on your AU ID. This number is also available in your WebAdvisor profile.
    • If you have problems with the login, please contact a librarian for assistance: Ask a Librarian (IM) or 630-844-7534.
  4. After you have logged in, scroll down so that you can "Choose pick-up location". Select ".ARUCirculation Desk". Then click on the "Request" button.
  5. The next screen will indicate that your request was placed successfully. ("Request submitted. Check here for status.")
  6. At this point you may view your VuFind account since you are already logged in. Or you may Log Out. If you view your account, you can see that your request is in process and from which library your book will be coming.

In your VuFind account you may also see all of your account activity and you may renew items that you have checked out from any I-Share library.
